The effect of watering “soya milk” on cellular and biochemical profiles of blood and growth performance in female calves

In the physiological trial 20 female calves at 2 mo of age were assign to two groups, 10 calves each, and fed during milk period the basal diet (I group, whole milk + milk substitute) or “soy milk” which was nutritionally equivalent to whole milk. The plasma content of fatty acids 18:2 and 20:4 was increased in gr. II (P<0.05) and that of 18:3 was decreased (P<0.05) during 3-6 mo of age , in comparison to control. He tendency was indicated of decreasing level of Hb and erytrocytes number in blood in gr. II compared to control. The final live weight of calves did not differ significantly between groups. The data obtained suggest that the use of “soy milk” during milk period did not occur any negative influence on physiological and biochemical processes in female calves.
