Замок Чапультепек и Памятник кадетам-героям
В 1880-х Улисс Грант, служивший под командованием Скотта, назвал этот конфликт злонамеренной войной, которая низвела на Соединённые Штаты кару небесную в форме гражданской войны:
Южное восстание в значительной степени было прорастанием мексиканской войны. Нации, как и люди, наказываются за свои грехи. Мы получили своё наказание в самой кровопролитной и дорогостоящей войне современности.[6]
В Мехико в парке Чапультепек поставлен памятник в честь шестерых подростков-кадетов, которые сбросились с дворцовых стен, не желая сдаваться американским захватчикам в ходе битвы за замок Чапультепек 18 сентября 1847 года. Памятник является важным патриотическим местом в Мехико. 5 марта 1947 года, спустя примерно сто лет после битвы, президент США Гарри Трумен возложил венок к памятнику и почтил героев минутой молчания.
